I am Derek Wright CTE Director and Central Office Administrator for Choctaw County Schools. I have served in many capacities in my education journey that has spanned 11+ years including teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve our students, staff and community.
Career and Technical Education (CTE) plays a critical role in education and workforce development, offering benefits to students, communities, and the economy. CTE allows students to explore different career paths early on, helping them make informed decisions about their future. It exposes students to a variety of professions and industries, enabling them to discover their interests and passions. CTE offers diverse educational pathways beyond traditional academic routes. It recognizes that individuals have different learning styles and interests, providing alternatives for those who may thrive in hands-on and applied learning environments. CTE programs are designed to address the specific needs of local, state, and global labor markets. By producing a skilled workforce in high-demand areas, CTE helps communities meet economic challenges and fosters economic growth. By providing individuals with targeted skills and preparing them for in-demand careers, CTE programs contribute to reducing unemployment rates. Graduates are equipped with the skills necessary to secure employment quickly.
